Ndola is a city in Northern Zambia.  It is the capital of the Copper belt Province.  Ndola is also located near the border of DRC (or Democratic Republic of the Congo).  Ndola is an important industrial center for the Copper belt Region, and has long been an African crossroad (a common meeting place).  Rails are through-out the city and are leading to surrounding mines.  Major objects that are produced here in Ndola are chemicals, brick and tile, wood products, pipes, tires, soap, sugar, and mineral water.  Ndola is also the leading center of copper and cobalt processing.  Ndola also has a campus of the University of Zaire.  Ndola was known has a slave trading town until the end of the 19th century before becoming a successful city.  Ndola ended up becoming an administrative center in 1904. The township was established in 1924, and the actual city of Ndola was established in 1932.  The estimated 1999 population was 441,624.
