Gorgon: the very word conjures up a vision of horror and disgust.  But who were the Gorgons, really?  This is what youll find out.

The Gorgons lived on an island in the Aegean Sea and were the result of Poseidons fling with a sea nymph.  The three sisters were extremely beautiful, had voices that could enchant anyone, and could turn people to stone by looking at them, though they could control this power.

The most famous of the sisters was Medusa.  Unjustly killed by that murderer, Perseus, the winged horse, Pegasus, was born when her blood hit the sand.
