Little do most of us know that the real master minds of the crusades were the Franks.  The Franks were the first to enter the crusades and with Godfrey and others who were of major Frankish Ancestry.  The Norse of Silicy and the Franks were the only two civilizations to launch a successful crusades in conquering towns like Tripoli and Antioch mainly coastal area. The crusades weren't even fought in to wide of a range, varying from a simple county, example: County of Tripoli, or the total population of the area known as Outremer, in Frankish meaning Franks of the Outer Realm; or just outer realm.  The crusaders and Saracens/Moslem population got along fairly well with an extremely balanced way of life.  Though the crusades were seemingly meant just to be destroyed, Renalyd de Chatlin is one Crusader who broke a treaty with Saladin that provoked his rage and ended up in the lose of major land for the crusaders and Outremer franks. Not all of the crusades were a lose though, the Crusaders actually achieved their goal of conquering Jerusalem and founding orders, such as the Hospitalliers and Knights of the Templar who were particularly greedy and evil people even though they had taken the cross and were a permanent defense military in the Holy Land. One Moslem/Saracen prince gave an account of how he referred to the Knights of the Templar as friends. I was doing homage at a temple in Jerusalem for like Christians, Moslems also consider Jerusalem holy, and when he prayed in his direction a man ran in and threw the prince to the ground, at this the Templar(s) grabbed the man and threw him out.  Once again I was praying silently to myself and the same man came in and hurled me to the ground saying pray toward the west!  Pray toward the West! At this the Templar(s) grabbed the man again but this time he broke free and shoved him to the floor, at this the Master of the Templar came and personally shoved him out and put 2 men to escort him to a location away from the Mosque. As you can see in the passage above the Templar(s) sound like a nice order but later become more like a blood thirsty cult. Not all the Crusades happened in the holy land.  Some happened in Europe/ West Asia.  When one Crusade went astray that ended up conquering Byzantine Constantinople, the capital of Christendom made by Constaine the Great first pro-Christian Roman Emperor. Or the Baltic Crusades up in Estonia and Latvia were the Teutonic Order or Brotherhood was formed and like the Templar(s) were blood thirsty tyrants to their fellow Christians.

Peter the Hermit was the one who brought a great zest upon the first crusade and also ended up in a disastrous campaign when they tried to Siege Byzantine Constantinople, famous double walled city.  When they finally where exterminated from the siege the emperor at the time gave them boat and they sailed across the sea and hit their destination.  At first the Turks and Mumlukes were afraid for their was a huge army but in combat a small Turkish force completely destroyed the army.  In a sense this was good for when Godfrey of Bouillon or Robert of Flanders as well as Bohemond of Taranto. When the Turks faced them they thought they would be like the peoples crusade but immediately they were butchered alive and the Turks figured they were deadlier than expected.
