The first country starting of our tour of
the rest of Europe is Germany. Germanys capital is Berlin, Berlin is also Germanys largest city with a total population of
3.2 million people. The total population of Germany is way more than that though, its 81.9 million people! Before we continue,
a little interesting fact is...Germany borders 9 different countries! Germany has temperate, marine, cool, cloudy, and wet
winters and summers. But Germany can also experience an occasional warm, tropical foehn wind, along with high humidity. The
average temperature for January in Germany is 31F, and 66F in July. Germany receives an annual of at least 22.5 of rainfall.
Germanys language is German. 92% of Germany is German, with 6% being other, and 2% being Turkish. This allows for a wide variety
of religions, there are 4 main groups in Germany. The Protestant is 38% of the population, the Roman Catholic is 34%, unaffiliated
or other religions are 26%, and 2% are Muslim.
Next we move onto France.
Frances capital and largest city is Paris with a population of 2.1 million people. The total population of France though is
59.1 million people. Thats about 20.8 million people less than Germany. Frances climate is cool winters, and mild summers.
But there is mild winters and hot summers along the Mediterranean. The average temperature for France in January is 38.3F,
and in July the average temperature is 65.7F. France receives , on average, a total of 82.8 of rain. The ethnic groups of
France are not available, but here are some of the main ethnic groups; Celtic, Latin, Teutonic, Slavic, North African, Indochinese,
and Basque minorities. 90% of France is Roman Catholic, 6% of France is unaffiliated, 2% is Protestant, and 1% for Muslim
and Jewishs religions.
From France we move
to Austria. Austrias capital is Vienna. But amazingly Vienna isnt Austrias largest city, in fact Vienna isnt even on the top
three. The countrys biggest city is Wien, with a population of 1.5 million people. Austrias total population is 8.1 million.
The climate for Austria is temperate; continental, cloudy; cold winters with frequent rain in lowlands and snow in mountains;
cool summers with occasional showers. The average temperature in January is 30.92F, and in July is 68.18F. German is the main
language spoken in Austria. The ethnic groups of Austria are, 88% German, 9% being other Europeans, and 3% being non-Europeans.
Then religions of Austria are 78% Roman Catholic, 17% other (including Muslim), and 5% Protestant.
Next we move onto Liechtenstein,
whose capital is Vaduz, but the largest city really is Schaan, with a population of 5,700 people. The total population of
Liechtenstein is 24,100 people. The climate of Liechtenstein is continental; cold, cloudy winters with frequent snow or rain;
cool to moderately warm, and cloudy, humid summers. The average temperature in January is 32F and the average temperature
in July is 64.8F. Liechtenstein speaks, officially, German. The ethnic groups of Liechtenstein are 87% Alemannic and 13% Italian,
Turkish, or other. The religions of Liechtenstein are 80% percent Roman Catholic, 8% unknown, 7% protestant, and 5% other.
Next we move onto Switzerland,
whose capital is Bern. The largest city in Switzerland is Zurich though. Zurichs population is 344,500 people, and the total
population of Switzerland is 7.3 million people. The climate for Switzerland is temperate, but varies with altitude; cold,
cloudy, rainy/snowy winters; cool to warm, cloudy, humid summers with occasional showers. The average temperature in January
is 26.4F and in July the average temperature is 74.3F. The ethnic diversity of Switzerland is pretty wide. Germans take up
64% of the population, French and Italian take up 28% of the population, and 7% are other. The religions of Switzerland are
46% Roman Catholic, 40% Protestant, and 14% other.
Our next stop is
Luxembourg whose capital and largest city is Luxembourg with a population of 77,700 people. The total population of Luxembourg
is 445,700 thousand people. The climate for Luxembourg is modified continental with mild winters, and cool summers. The average temperature in January is 31.1F and the average temperature in July is 62.2F. The main ethnic divisions of Luxembourg are n/a. 97% of Luxembourg is Roman
Catholic, with only 3% being protestant.
Next we move onto Monaco,
whose capital is Monaco. The total population of Monaco and the city Monaco (and suburbs) is 33,400 people. The climate of
Monaco is Mediterranean with mild and wet winters. The average temperature in January is 50F and in July the average temperature
is 74F. There is a blend of ethnic groups and the main religion is Roman Catholic (90%) and protestant (10%).
The next country is Portugal, its capital and largest city are Lisbon with a population 558,100. The
total population of Portugal is 10.3 million people. The climate of Portugal is maritime temperate; cool and rainy in the
north, and warmer and drier in the south. The average temperature in January is 50.9F and in July the average temperature
is 70.7F. The ethnic groups of Portugal are unknown. Roman Catholic takes up 94% of the population, but the other 6% is n/a.
Next we move onto Spain.
Madrid is Spains capital and largest city with a population of 3 million people. The total population of Spain is 41.1 million
people. The climate for Spain is temperate; clear, hot summers in interior, more moderate and cloudy along coast; cloudy,
cold winters in interior, partly cloudy and cool along coast. The average temperature in January is 41.5F and in July the
average temperature is 76.3F. The ethnic division of Spain is unknown, but the country is 99% Roman Catholic and 1% other.
Italy is the next country!
Italys capital is Rome. Rome is also Italys largest city with a population of 2.4 million people. The total population of
Italy is a mind boggling 56.2 million people. The climate of Italy is predominantly Mediterranean; Alpine in far north; hot,
dry in south. The average temperature in January is 45F and the average temperature in July is 75.9F. The ethnic divisions
of Italy are, like Spain and Portugal, not available. The religions of Italy are though. 98% of Italians (living in Italy)
are Roman Catholic and 2% are other.
Next we move onto Greece,
whose capital is Athens. The largest city in Greece is Athens, which has a population of 741,900 people. The total population
of Greece is 11.0 million people. The climate of Greece is temperate; mild, wet winters; hot, dry summers. The average temperature
in January is 50.4F and in July the average temperature is 82.8F. 98% of the people living in Greece are Greek, followed by
2% of other cultures. The religions of Greece are 98% Greek Orthodox, 1% Muslim, and 1% other.
Next we move onto Croatia.
Croatias capital and largest city is Zagreb. Zagrebs population is 688,600 people. The total population of Croatia is 4.4
million people. The climate of Croatia is Mediterranean and continental; continental climate predominant with hot summers
and cold winters; mild winters, dry summers along coast. The average temperature in January is 34.5F. The average temperature
in July is 69.9F. The ethnic background of Croatia is a combination of many ethnic groups from around Asia, Africa, and Europe.
The religions of Croatia are pretty evenly split between Roman Orthodox and Protestant.
