Ever look at a calendar and wonder where did they get these names?  If you havent, well read this article anyway!  I dont have time to tell you all the origins, but since it is that time of the year, Ive chosen February.  It all started with Lupercala festival which happened approx. on February 15(Gee thats awful close to Valentines Day, I wonder if theres a connection?)  By the way, in order to understand the next part.\, you have to know how Rome came about.  (Legend Saxs) There were these two baby boys, Romulus and Remus, who were abandoned at birth.  They were found by a mother wolf who raised them.  When they were grown up, they founded the city of Rome.  So, of course, the festival started at the cave they grew up in, they called the cave Lupercal.  Here Luperci Priest (Im beginning to see a trend here) gathered for a ceremony that set off the rest of the festival.  The priest sacrificed two goats and a dog, catching the blood.  Then two boys, representing Romulus and Remus, got their brows wiped with blood.  Then that would be wiped off with wool sodden with milk.  Then the boys ran laughing through the crowds of young woman, lashing wildly with goat skin thongs. (Whips, hot underwear)  This was believed to make them better able to bear children.  These wips were called called Februa, the wipping itself the Februatio.  (That is latin for purity)  So thats where the name February comes from.  So, the name February comes from whips made of goat skins that helped woman have kids!
