The Heinkel He III was a heavily armored, two engined, german bomber.  It was used mainly for night raids, since its guns were weaker than Brittish ones.  There fore, it would have been a failure in open battle.  Almost every german combat unit had at least one by the time the war broke out.  The first was completed on May 4, 1937.  At the end of its career, it was determined too slow for raids anymore and was converted into a paratrooper carrier.
