You've probably been told about the shot heard round the world,
but do
you know what that really was?  The start of the revolution of
course!  Resentment of English rule had been roiling for a while.
Small scuffles and riots began to break out everywhere.
General Gage (governor of Massachusetts) attempted
                                    to cut off the
rebellion, starting by trying to confiscate stores of patriot ammo
and weapons.  Tension was high and all the patriot citizens were
ready
to get their guns out on a moments notice.
In Boston, a silversmith and denture maker by the name of
Paul
Revere spied upon British movements.  Revere had an
underground
alarm system set up.  1 Lantern meant troops coming
by land,
2 lanterns meant by water.  On April 18, 1775,
two lanterns
were up and the midnight ride of Paul Revere began.
He alerted several towns, telling patriot soldiers and civilians
The British
are coming, the British are coming! He got arrested,
but after warning a few towns.  What many people dont know however
is that Revere had two accomplices, one of whom
                                    escaped when he
was arrested.  These were Billy Bowes and
                                    Samuel Prescott.

Mean while in Lexington, a band of patriot soldiers confronted a

group of British ones.  Now comes the shot heard round the world.

Are you ready?  Here it comes!  BANG!! An unordered shot was fired.

The British panicked, broke ranks, and returned fire!!  At the end of

the skirmish, eight patriots lay dead.  And that was the start of the

revolution.
