Victoria is a city in British Columbia, Canada. Victoria is the capital of the providence of British Columbia.  In 2001 the population of British Columbia (in the metropolitan area) was 311,902 people!
 
Victoria is located on the southeastern tip of Vancouver Island overlooking the Juan de Fuca Strait.  Victoria, in 1843, was founder by the Hudson's Bay Co. as a fur-trading post named Fort Camosun.  Fort Camosun was later renamed Fort Victoria in honor of the English Queen, Victoria.  In 1866, Victoria was selected to be the capital of British Columia when Vancouver Island united with British Columbia!  Today Victoria is one of British Columbia's largest business centers, a major tourist resort, and an area where many people retire to!  Victoria is also a major port, it is the Pacific Headquaters for the Canadian Navy!
