Seattle is a city and seaport which is located in the state of Washington.  It has a population (as of 2000) of 563,375 people!  It is located in the Pacific Northwest of the United States of America.
 
Seattle is the largest city in the state of Washington.  Seattle is also the commercial, industrial, and financial center of the Pacific Northwest!  Seattle is located between Elliott Bay (Puget Sound) and Lake Washington. Seattle is flanked by the Olympic Mountains and the Cascade Range.
 
Seattle was laid out in 1853.  Three years later, in 1856, Seattle withstood a Native American attack, in the 1880s Seattles survived anti-Chinese riots, and in 1889 Seattle survived a disastrous fire.  Surviving all of these events, Seattle soon emerged as the gateway to the Orient and Alaska. 
 
Seattle was the main supply depot for the Yukon and Alaskan gold rushes in the 1890s,  World War II brought a great boom to the city in population, culture, industry, and many other areas. The city grew with more shipyards and aircraft areas relating to airway fields, production, and repairing!
 
Seattle Center was the site of the 1962 World's Fair and contains the 607 feet (185 meters) tall Space Needle.  Seattle's educational institutions include the University of Washington which was founded in 1861.
