The electroweak theory is the theory that describes both the electromagnetic force and the weak force.

These two forces appear to be different, but they are actually different facets of a more fundamental force!  The electroweak theory was thought up in the 1960s by Sheldon Glashow, whom was born in 1932, Steven Weinberg, whom was born in 1933, and Abdus Salam, whom was born in 1926.  Their theory represents a 20th-century scientific landmark and won its authors a 1979 Nobel Prize.  The electroweak theory was validated in the 1980s with the discovery of the W particle and the Z particle (which is exactly what the electroweak theory had predicted).
