L'quila
is a city which had 63,121 people living in it in 2001. L'quila
is the capital of the Abruzzi region, which is in central Italy.
The area was first settled by the Sabini, an ancient Italic tribe, and the city of L'Aquila
was founded c. 1240. After L'Aquila
was ruled by the Kingdom of Naples, it
became part of the Kingdom of Italy in
1861. Located near mountains of Gran Sasso d'Italia, it is a skiing centre and
a summer resort. Historic sites in L'Aquila
include a 14th Century cathedral and a 16th century castle!
