This article is about population basis compared to the climate and topography.  At the end there will be more in-depth population basis of what the climates are and what amount of people (according to the map) are living in that region.

When you look at how many states are in the Humid Continental and Humid Subtropical climates, its no surprise that most of Americas population lives on the Eastern side of the U.S.  In fact the boarder line for the, more heavy or numerous, population is on the Western side of these states, Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri/Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas.  Reason for more people living here is because of the nice, cool, but warm climates and the fairly level land.

But the Western U.S. has three (3) states that also are similar to the Eastern sides population basis, but their climates are Mediterranean, Marine West Coast, and Highland.   But since the Western U.S. is so much more rugged than the East most people choose to live on the coast.  It is so much liked, that parts of California have more than 520 people living in one square mile!  There are three main exception cities.  They are Phoenix and its suburbs, Denver, and Santa Fe.  Those are three major cities that are in a desert or steppe climate.
